Rydell Powertrain FAQ’s

Remanufactured  Engines:

What comes with your engines?

Our reman engines are generally sold as longblocks and come with a gasket set and a new oil pump.  When you call you can ask to see if the engine for your application is available in other levels.  Some are available “with tin” and come with the oil pan and front cover, and still others are available as complete drop in units.

What is a longblock?

A longblock engine includes the block, crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and camshaft.  This is generally called the “rotating assembly”.  Longblocks also include the cylinder head(s) and the valve train components.

What parts are always new on an Rydell remanufactured Engines?

Not only new, but new name brand: pistons, piston rings, valves, valve keepers, valve locks, valve springs, gaskets, bearings, timing chains and gears, pushrods, lifters and soft plugs.

Do you offer install kits like Jasper?

Yes we do!  We offer complete engine install kits for your installation convenience.  Protect your investment with a premium engine install kit from Rydell Powertrain - 1 year warranty on all parts included in the kit!  Click here to order.

How are your engines packaged?

All reman engines come in a plastic tote to protect the unit during transport, and provides a container for you to return your core.

Who makes your engines?

We buy from 4 well known US companies.  All are QS certified facilities and are approved to build for the OE’s.  Several have contracts and are building OE units in the same factories that our units are produced in.

Why are your engines so inexpensive?

A couple reasons – first we buy a lot of them, but we also get to provide our own core up front.  This gives us leverage and savings that no one can match.  We also have a VERY LOW warranty rate – often lower than these companies have with their regular customers.  Warranties cost money – so the fewer we have result in lower prices!  And finally – Rydell Powertrain has a huge distribution system.  We can stock products in locations all over the country and we have excellent relationships with our national freight carriers.

What’s your warranty?

All light duty gasoline remanufactured engines from Rydell Powertrain carry a 36 month or 100,000 mile warranty.  Our warranty is not pro-rated, so it covers parts and labor for the full term of the warranty.  Diesels, taxi cabs, and vehicles over 1 ton have shorter warranty periods depending on the application.

How much labor does your warranty pay?

Our warranty allows $50 per hour for repairs or replacements.

What time guide do you use?

We use Alldata, but will accept any nationally recognized time guide.

Do your stock engines locally?

Yes – Rydell Powertrain has 14 warehouses around the country with Engine inventory.  These are reviewed and filled twice a month to keep the inventory turning.

What do I do with my cores?

We advise that you complete the engine swap BEFORE we pick up the core so you can be sure you have all the parts you need off the old unit to complete your installation.  Some of those oil filer adaptors can be hard to find! We can send a truck for your core return for an additional charge when you are ready.

Who do I call if I have a warranty?

We ask that you report any issues to the Rydell Powertrain salesperson who sold you the engine.  They will start a warranty ticket with Rydell Powertrain own Product Support Department.  You will get a call back from one of our ASE Master Certified technicians to walk you through your issue.

Do you guys deny warranty claims?

All alleged defects are returned to the builder for teardown and inspection. If the engine is determined to be built according to specification, we may not offer labor reimbursement for the repair.  You will never be asked to pay for a first replacement engine regardless of the claim findings.

Why should I stop buying from Jasper?

Jasper is a great company and builds a great product.  We feel our product is the same quality and offers the same warranty for usually $300- $500 less per unit.  So you can make more money on each job by buying from Rydell Powertrain (if you are used to charging Jasper prices), and you may get more jobs that might have left your shop because the price on the engine was just too high.

Do I need to register my warranty?

No registration is required.  In the event of an issue we will need the serial number off the unit to start a warranty claim.

Is your warranty transferable?

Yes – the warranty is good for the part for 36 months or 100,000 miles regardless of the vehicle owner.  The unit needs to stay in the original vehicle.

Anything else I should tell my customer about your engines?

You should tell them that their warranty is nationwide.  They can have repairs done under warranty anywhere they take their car – they don’t have to bring it back to you for warranty work.

You should also tell them that many warranties out there are pro-rated – meaning that you might think you are getting a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty, but if you read the fine print it covers parts and labor for the first year, and after that becomes parts only.  Rydell Powertrains warranty is as good on the last day as it was on the first – Parts AND labor for 3 years or 100,000 miles!

How much are your 350 chevys?

We offer the late model VORTEC 2 bolt main unit for about $1400. – And yes it is still the top selling engine out there!

Does my customer need to document service to keep the warranty intact?

No documentation required.  But if your customer runs their engine out of oil or overheats it, they might not get labor paid on the eventual replacement they will need under warranty.

What do I need to worry about on installs?

Do not dry start our engines!  Proper pre-lubrication is essential.  Also pay attention to remote oil coolers – these are impossible to properly clean and should be replaced.  And finally use care when cleaning oil pans, front covers and valve covers.  Improper cleaning (scotchbrite pads or abrasive disks) will contaminate your new engine in no time.

Are your engines tested?

Yes – 100% or our engines are pressure tested after assembly to assure water jacket integrity.  We hold 40 lbs of air pressure in the engine for 5 minutes to detect any leaks or cracks that may have been missed during assembly.  Each engine is then spin tested on a run-in machine.  This process allows checks of compression on each cylinder, oil pressure and flow, and dynamic resistance.

Are your engines rebuilt?

NO – Our engines are remanufactured.  You can get rebuilt engines a lot cheaper than ours – but someone has just fixed what was broken and put it back together using most of the old wear parts.  Our remanufactured engines go through the same systematic process every time regardless of the condition of the core engine we start with. The same parts are always replaced with new. That’s why we can say it has zero miles!

Remanufactured Transmissions:

What comes with your transmission?

Our remanufactured transmissions come as complete units and include a new torque converter.  All internal and most external sensors and switches are in place.  Most of our units are also shipped with the appropriate synthetic fluid.

What parts are always replaced on an Rydell remanufactured transmission?

All soft wearable parts are replaced – including gaskets, seals, clutch bands and plates.  All hard parts are replaced where necessary.

What will you accept for a core return?

Our cores need to be intact and like-for-like.  Obvious breaks in the case may result in a core deduction, and units that have been stripped of internal components will incur a core charge back as well.

How are your transmissions packaged?

All reman transmissions come in a plastic tote to protect the unit during transport, and provides a container for you to return your core.  This package is just like OE.

Who makes your transmissions?

We buy from 4 well known US companies.  All are QS certified facilities and are approved to build for the OE’s.  Two of our suppliers are OE tier one suppliers and we are their ONLY customer outside of the OE!

What’s your warranty?

Most light duty applications carry 3 years 100,000 mile warranty.  As with our engine warranty this warranty covers both parts and labor for the full term of the warranty.  Vehicles over 1 ton or vehicles that have been modified from the original condition carry an 18 moth 18,000 parts and labor warranty.

How much labor does your warranty pay?

Our warranty allows $50 per hour for repairs or replacements.

What time guide do you use?

We use Alldata, but will accept any nationally recognized time guide.

Do your stock reman transmissions locally?

Yes – Rydell Powertrain has 14 warehouses around the country with Transmission inventory.  These are reviewed and filled twice a month to keep the inventory turning.

What do I do with my cores?

We advise that you complete the transmission swap BEFORE we pick up the core so you can be sure you have all the parts you need off the old unit to complete your installation.  Some of those small parts can be hard to find! We can send a truck to pick up your core return for an additional charge when you are ready.

Who do I call if I have a warranty?

We ask that you report any issues to the Rydell Powertrain salesperson who sold you the transmission.  They will start a warranty ticket with Rydell Powertrains own Product Support Department.  You will get a call back from one of our ASE Master Certified technicians to walk you through your issue.

Is your warranty transferable?

All alleged defects are returned to the builder for teardown and inspection. If the transmission is determined to be built according to specification, we may not offer labor reimbursement for the repair.  You will never be asked to pay for a first replacement transmission regardless of the claim findings.

I buy from Jasper why should I buy from Rydell Powertrain?

Jasper is a great company and builds a great product.  Our product is OE quality and offers the same warranty for usually $300- $500 less per unit.  So you can make more money on each job by buying from Rydell Powertrain (if you are using to charging Jasper prices), and you may get more jobs that might have left your shop because the price on the transmission was just too high.   In addition Rydell Powertrain offers broader coverage on imports (including exotic European models), and some late model domestic units.

Do I need to register my warranty?

No registration is required.  In the event of an issue we will need the serial number off the unit to start a warranty claim. We request the VIN and mileage when you order.

Does my customer need to document service to keep the warranty intact?

No documentation required.  Transmissions (unlike engines) do not require regular fluid changes anyway.

What do I need to worry about on installs?

Transmission installations should be done by qualified technicians.  Pay attention to any special bulletins or notes that come with your unit.  Coolers need to be flushed properly.  Always include the proper fluid for your specific application.

Are your transmission tested?

Yes – 100% or our transmissions are dyno tested with the converter that is shipped with the unit. Dyno testing simulates normal and extreme driving conditions at both cold and hot temperatures.   In addition, valve bodies and solenoids are 100% tested prior to assembly.

REBUILT DIFFERENTIALS

Why do you call these rebuilt?

As opposed to our remanufactured engines and transmissions, Rydell Powertrains rebuilt differentials will make use of used ring gears, pinions and carriers.  These parts are all 100% cleaned and inspected prior to assembly.   If we need to use new parts we will, but since we can’t say they ALWAYS have these new parts these units are “rebuilt” and not remanufactured.

OK -- So what is NEW in these units?

They are all assembled using a new bearing kit which includes axle bearings, axle seals, pinion nut, crush sleeve, outer pinion bearing, inner pinion bearing and carrier bearings.  Units also contain oil and friction modifier (if unit is a posi).

Your units come with oil?

Your unit is filled and sealed – saving you time on installations!

Do they come with brake components?

No – we remove all the components and lines to properly clean the housing.  You will need to transfer these parts over.

So the axles come with the units too?

Yes – not only axles (with studs) but backing plates are included.  You do not need to open our unit up before installation.

How do you make sure the housings are straight?

We use a hardened steel bar that slides into the housing.  We verify straightness at each end as well as the center section by using metal pucks that must fit easily inside the housing.

Is break-in required?

Yes – we recommend normal break in while the vehicle is on the lift.  Free running for 30 minutes prior to test drive is acceptable.

What is your warranty?

We provide a 12 month or 12,000 parts and labor warranty on units that are not dual rear wheel 1 ton applications.  These carry a 90 day parts only warranty.

How much labor does your warranty pay?

Our warranty allows $50 per hour for repairs or replacements.

Is your warranty transferable?

Yes – the warranty is good for the part for 12 months or 12,000 miles regardless of the vehicle owner.  The unit needs to stay in the original vehicle.

What time guide do you use?

We use Alldata, but will accept any nationally recognized time guide.

How do you ship your differentials?

Our units are banded to a custom pallet and covered with heat shrink plastic.

Are your units as good as Jaspers?

Jasper units are good, but we are better.  Jasper units do not come with axles, backing plates, or fluid.  We save you time & Money!
